People say that it’s nearly impossible not to stay connected in our global age, but I beg to differ. In a world where the internet controls what we see and when we see it, I sometimes find it difficult to stay up-to-date on important worldly events when my Facebook feed shows videos of cute, cuddly kittens and how to make the best tasting, vegan lasagna. If you find yourself feeling out of the loop like I sometimes do, here are three easy ways to stay connected to what’s happening in the world.
1. Check what’s trending on social outlets like Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Snapchat.
The most obvious way to stay connected to what’s going on in the world is to check social media outlets. My favorite thing about checking different social sites is how they show users different, but still relevant topics. Twitter tends to keep people up-to-date with global news coverage as well as local news stories too since trends depend on what users are tweeting about. Instagram shows who the most influential users are and which channel gets the most Instagram live views. LinkedIn helps people stay connected within their industry and notifies people about what industry relevant events are taking place. Lastly, Snapchat can help people stay connected from a pop cultural aspect, which is my personal favorite.
2. Update your Google Alerts
Set the frequency in which you would like to be updated and the specific things you would like to get updated on. You can set your results so that you receive updates for things you are specifically interested in, like if you study the changes that Pres. Donald Trump is bringing about in the U.S., then you will get updated with that information. Google Alerts allows you to target what is most newsworthy to you, which is what I like most about it.
3. Download the CNN: Breaking U.S. & Worldly News app
My go to for live coverage and updates on political and worldly affairs is the CNN: Breaking U.S. & Worldly News app. CNN has a more serious tone than that of other social media outlets, but does do a fair share of touching on topics that aren’t so serious like the Royal Wedding.
It may be difficult to stay connected in a society where things move pretty fast; however, it is imperative that people stay connected to the world so that they can stay educated and prepared for the future.
